Community Helpers Program Launch

In March, just before COVID-19 changed our world, the provincial AHS Community Helpers Program (CHP) was officially launched by the Alberta Health Services Provincial Team and the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. As one of the three newest demonstration projects in the province, the CHP for Peace River is coordinated through Peace Regional Outreach hosts and has been offering training, resources and support directly and through community and school-based partnerships over the past year. The CHP builds capacity in communities and highlights their existing strengths and is a critical component of Alberta’s suicide prevention and intervention strategy.   The CHP is intended to promote mental health, prevent suicide and encourage help-seeking for youth in our communities through developing the helping skills of youth and adults that work with youth to care for those youth while also caring for themselves. Trainings continue to be facilitated. If you are interested in being trained or simply in knowing more about this program, please contact CHP Coordinator Linda Stevens at 780-624-5534 or stevenli@prsd.ab.ca.
